The PEPPER project is proud to announce that the main clinical study of the PEPPER app will soon commence at the Girona Biomedical Research Institute and Imperial College London. This news coincides with World Diabetes Day 2018 (https://www.worlddiabetesday.org/), which aims to raise public awareness of diabetes and to support people living with the disease. The PEPPER app will help users with Type 1 Diabetes to manage their condition by personalising advice about insulin dosage and carbohydrate intake through artificial intelligence. The app also allows patients to keep track of their medical data, empowering them to play a more active role in diabetes self-management. This project has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme. Patient safety is the project’s top priority and we are committed to thoroughly testing the app with the help of our clinical partners. Although initial medical trials have already been carried out, these were on small samples of patients for limited periods of time. The initial trials tested the feasibility and safety of the system, whereas the current study will evaluate the app’s effectiveness as a tool to treat diabetes. The PEPPER project hopes to play its part in the global effort to improve the lives of diabetic
